Homicide Suspect Allegedly Used Fireplace Poker As Murder Weapon

CONCORD (BCN)

A man arrested last month in Oregon was formally charged with murder and using a fireplace poker in the July killing a 64-year-old man in Concord, Contra Costa County Deputy District Attorney Derek Butts announced Thursday.

The body of Michael Downie was found July 27 when friends checked on him at his home in the 1200 block of Pine Creek Way.

Investigators quickly named Terrence Boyd Dixon, 55, as a suspect and issued an arrest warrant. Dixon was later located in the small town of Bandon, Oregon, and turned himself in to the Bandon Police Department Aug. 14.

Dixon has prior convictions in Nevada for attempted murder and robbery, according to the district attorney's office. Murder charges in Downie's killing were filed Thursday in Contra Costa County Superior Court.
