Penn National casino fined for unapproved poker play

HARRISBURG, Pa. - A Berks County-based casino company has lost money over some games of poker.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) announced Wednesday that it has fined Mountainview Thoroughbred Racing Association, an affiliate of Penn National Gaming, $20,000 for conducting unapproved poker tournaments at its Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course in East Hanover Township, Dauphin County.

PGCB officials said the casino failed to follow the rules set forth by the Pennsylvania Gaming Act for four poker tournaments it held in 2019.

The act mandates that table games staffing plans, tournament schedules, dealer training programs and schematics of gaming guides, table layouts, signage and equipment be submitted to the PGCB for approval by its executive director.

Penn National is headquartered in Wyomissing. The company is currently preparing to open two mini-casinos in Pennsylvania, one of which will be located in Caernarvon Township, Berks County.
