NFL Player Starts Shooting Gun During Argument At Poker Game

Castle Rock, CO – Washington Redskins wide receiver Cody Latimer became upset while drinking alcohol and playing poker and fired a gun twice during an argument.

Police responded to reports of a gunshot shortly after midnight last Saturday, according to WUSA.

According to a police report, Latimer got into an argument with another person playing poker. That's when the host, Roderick English, kicked the eight players out of his apartment, WUSA reported.

However, Latimer returned angry and blamed English for his earlier argument with the other poker player.

English said that Latimer then pulled out a black handgun and said he saved two bullets for English and English’s girlfriend, who was also at the poker party..

According to English, Latimer waved the gun around and said he was going to “kill everybody.”

Latimer waved the gun around and didn’t point it directly at anyone. Then Latimer said he would never hurt English or English’s girlfriend, according to the police report. He then emptied the magazine and cleared the chamber of his gun, according to WUSA.

But then Latimer got mad again and fired two shots close to English.

That’s when English pinned Latimer against the wall and Latimer struck English on the top of the head with his gun.

English suffered a contusion on the top of his head and a cut on his face.

A witness told the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department that they heard arguing and then what sounded like gunshots inside the apartment, ESPN reported.

Latimer was arrested and booked into the the Douglas County Detention Facility.

He was charged with felony assault in the second degree, menacing and illegal discharge of a firearm and misdemeanor charges of prohibited use of a weapon and reckless endangerment, according to ESPN.

Latimer posted a $25,000 bond and was released.

"There's an entire back story to this situation that constitutes one of the most highly provocative situations you can imagine," said Harvey Steinberg, Latimer's attorney, according to ESPN. “Please withhold judgment until all the facts of what took place that night are known."

Latimer has earned $7.7 million in his six seasons in the NFL.

"We are aware of the situation and have informed the NFL League Office," the Washington Redskins said, according to ESPN. "We will continue to gather more information and have no further comment at this time."
