Bellagio Poker Room Cage Robbed
A masked man robbed the Bellagio poker room cashier cage Tuesday afternoon and got away with cash of undetermined amount. The cashier complied with the robber's demands as she was held through gunpoint. Although no one was physically harmed, the armed robber managed to get away with his loot. Police have currently released surveillance photos as well as details of the getaway car.
According to reports, the attack occurred a little after 3:45 p.m. The robbery was perpetrated by a single masked man armed with a handgun and fled in a silver Chevy Cruze with Nevada license plates of 37D147.
Randy Ohel, a WSOP bracelet winner and over $1.2M in earnings, was one of the first to report about the incident through his Twitter account. He apparently stumbled onto the crime scene just after the robbery took place. Ohel was there for a cash game and that the suspect took off with an unknown amount and exited via the valet on the north side of the property going to Flamingo Rd.
Actor James Woods, who was playing poker that time and was only a stone's throw away from the cashier's cage that was targeted by the robber, said that hardly anyone even realized that there was a robbery going on. He appreciated the fact that the Bellagio staff calmly handled the issue and simply gave the money to make sure that nobody got hurt.
Doyle Brunson (picture), a two-time WSOP Main Event champ and Poker Hall of Fame inductee, was also present during the robbery. The 84-year-old poker pro said that the high stakes room that housed around $200,000 in cash was only a few yards away and had remained untouched.
The Las Vegas Police have reportedly been looking for the bandit along with his aforementioned getaway vehicle.
This is not the first time that an armed robbery occurred in the Bellagio. In 2011, the "Biker Bandit" got away with $1.5 million after successfully robbing a high-limit craps table. The perpetrator, Tony Carleo, was later caught after he foolishly tried to sell his stolen chips.
