Kevin Hart wins €40K Pot, Returns €15K to Opponent out of Pity
Last week, Hart decided to choose Hollywood instead of the Bahamas to compete in the brand new PokerStars Championship Cash Challenge Series. In there, he played in what Daniel Negreanu described as "the greatest televised hand in the history of poker", and if you get to see it, for sure you'll agree it's one of the strangest things ever to happen in poker.
Mila Monroe has with her a weak hand of six high yet she tries to bluff Hart, actually a keen poker player, who has king high. Unfortunately for her, the bluff didn't work, as Hart called her bet after she goes all-in and he flips over his cards and declares he has a straight. However, there's a twist - Hart then realized he didn't have a straight and puts his hands to his head before it clicks that he has STILL actually won!
Fortunately for Monroe, the comedian actor then makes a truly Hart-felt gesture when he counted up his winnings and gave back to her 15,000 in chips.
When interviewed about the incident, Hart joked, "The greatest hand ever? It's the greatest hand ever because I was involved. You also got to see how nice of a guy I am but also how sharp I am. I knew what was going on the whole time. I'm very good at dissecting a poker hand. I knew she had the six so what looks like a reckless call, a very lose moment by me, is actually a well thought out move that only some can do. After doing it I actually felt bad that I played a high level of poker so I said I want you to stay around. So I gave her money - and the reason I gave her money back is so she could understand 'this guy is the real deal'. She has no choice because I let her live. I could have killed her off but I gave her life."
After that, Hart continued, "It actually showed how awful I am at the game. It was a fun moment and she's such a sweetheart the entire day that we played. Losing hard to something like that would have been tough. That's why I gave her money to get back into the game."
