Feds file Charges against Poker Pro for Running Pot Operation

It turns out this poker pro is making a living from two different pots, that is, one's from poker, and the other is from another type of pot. Which one is giving him the most profit? It seems to be the latter, but because distributing drugs is against the law, he's been arrested and now he's going to pay big time for that.

Earlier in February, poker pro Micah Raskin from Long Island got busted at a major marijuana raid. This time, he is facing additional federal charges for dispensing over 100 kilos of pot and hash oils in the Baltimore, Maryland area. Feds say that the illegal drug ring the poker pro was involved in has led to one of the largest drug busts in the history of Nassau County, New York.

Micah Raskin, age 50, was charged a week ago in the US District Court, having just been arraigned in February at Nassau County on firearm possession and felony drug charges.

According to documents, Raskin obtained drug shipments which he kept in his Long Island house and in a storage building nearby. These shipments would then be distributed through a courier to various locations in Baltimore, Virginia, Washington D.C., and New York. Customers were charged $1,400 per pound of the illicit drug.

Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas said that the drug dealing operations "went on for a period of several years."

360 Pounds of Pot worth Half a Million Bucks
When Raskin was first arrested by police in February, he was found to be in possession of around 360 pounds of marijuana (estimate street value was $500,000) and very big quantities of hash oils that contained concentrated doses of THC. Police also seized two vehicles (a 2016 Range Rover and a 2016 Chevrolet Corvette), a loaded shotgun, $140,000 in cash, expensive artwork believed to be worth more than $100,000, and paperwork showing payments and prices related to the scheme.

Poker Career
Micah Raskin may not be a name even the most hardcore poker fans would remember, but it is a fact that he was a successful poker player back then with a history of notable cashes in various tournaments all across the globe.

His last recorded tournament cash was when he made a deep run in a $3,300 buy-in NLHE event back in January 28 this year at the Borgata (he won $6,399), a few days before he was first arrested.

He may not have topped a field of players throughout his poker journey, but still he's had a handful of significant performances:

• 2009 in Borgata casino, Atlantic City - he won a $1,500 buy-in tournament, taking home $320,231 (this was his biggest cash so far in his career).
• 2013 Aussie Millions Poker Championship - he won a A$5,000 ($3,500) Six Man Turbo event in Melbourne, cashing in A$75,000 ($53,000).
• 2013 EPT Berlin - he won the Berlin Cup High Roller, taking home €105,368 ($121,400).

Overall, he has almost $1.95 million in live poker tournament earnings, and that's enough to put him in the top 1,000 on the all-time money list.

A Dangerous Individual
Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said after Raskin was arrested, "The arrest of defendant Micah Raskin is a clear example of a collaborative multi-jurisdictional law enforcement investigation which is taking a dangerous individual and the drugs that he was dealing off the streets. I congratulate all of the investigators for a job well done."

If convicted on all counts, Raskin could face up to 8 years in jail. It is not yet known how much extra jail time he will face if he gets convicted of the new federal charges as well.
