What's Keeping Us Sane This Week - May 23 | Man of Many

With some world leaders reportedly bulking up on hydroxychloroquine while others attempt to throw political shade, you’d be forgiven for thinking the world was going a little insane this week. The reality is, beaches are opening, the weather is cooling and restaurants are almost back in full swing. Come June 1 in NSW the hospitality industry will be almost back to pre-COVID action, so if you planning on losing the plot, try and hold off for another few weeks.

Here at Man of Many, we’ve been powering on through, keeping ourselves entertained with some new toys and more than a few cheeky beverages. What’s Keeping Us Sane this week? Check out all the cool stuff we discovered over the past seven days.

Batch Brewing Co A Currant State of Infusion

Batch Brewing Co – A Currant State of Infusion

Nick Hall – Digital Editor

I am a simple man, I’m not ashamed to admit. I love football, I dress in plain white T-shirts and no, I do not subscribe to the strange ideologies that my craft beer-loving friends have been trying to push upon me for the last decade. Despite all their best efforts, I simply cannot get amongst the ultra-fruity and floral beers that are making the rounds at the moment. However, when I saw Batch Brewing Co’s Currant State of Infusion, it piqued my interest. While I’m not a huge fan of fruity beers, the idea of a coffee sour ale was a tempting premise and one that I couldn’t turn down. I’m glad I didn’t.

The beer is somewhere between a dark malt and an espresso shot, and somehow, it all works. The addition of the blackcurrant adds a fruity aroma that I am surprisingly enamoured with. But above all else, it’s that beautiful Campos coffee that cuts through. As someone who smashes five to six lattes per day, this is a dangerously effective midday pick-me-up.

Poker Stars Lite

Poker Stars LITE App

Scott Purcell – Co-Founder

Now I know we shouldn’t ever condone excessive gambling here on Man of Many, but here’s the catch, with this Poker Stars LITE App you can play poker against real people online with, you guessed it, fake money. While it might not have the same thrill as putting your own money on the line, the fact you can get a game up and running in seconds against real people while you’re chilling in front of the TV, on the toilet or needing a distraction from work, is awesome. The app will also give you 15,000 free chips every 3 hours if you suck at poker and manage to run out. This has been a fun way to re-live that poker craze we all went through throughout our mid-teens to early twenties. “One time!”

Yahtzee

Frank Arthur – Co-Founder

To help pass the time I’ve started playing Yahtzee..yes, riveting I know. The boredom of isolation-life has come to the point that playing Yahtzee is one of the highlights of my week. And now, I’m strangely addicted. It’s a game of which the name I’ve heard many times over the years but it wasn’t until recently that I actually played it for the first time.

Its origins trace back to games from the early 1900s (which is coincidentally the same era that most people who play this game were born) and just the like the war, the depression and grandparents of that era, I would also describe the game of Yahtzee as great.

The rules are simple. All you need are 5 dice and you too can enjoy 13 rounds of pure ecstasy.

Fitbit Premium

Denise Barnes – Native Content Manager

As a long time Fitbit user, I’m always excited when their latest devices are announced to see what new life-improving tech and innovations the company has come up with. Other than tracking my daily activity, breathing exercises and having Alexa on my wrist with me wherever I go, the feature I’m most obsessed with is the sleep tracking. Recently, I’ve signed up to Fitbit Premium and this takes sleep tracking to a whole new level.

While you can see all your basic sleep info in the free version, Fitbit Premium allows you to access in-depth information about your night’s rest, including average heartbeat (BPM) while sleeping and the percentage of rest you achieve below your average daytime BPM. This allows you to really assess the quality of your sleep. The premium version also helps you to improve your overall sleep score by giving useful tips and things to try to help you get more zzzz’s. Sleep is so important for overall health and wellbeing, and that’s why I find this truly life-changing. It’s not just about getting enough sleep, it’s also about the quality of your sleep, and having access to Fitbit premium is like having your very own sleep coach. For anyone new to Fitbit, you can get a free 90-day trial which is pretty epic. After that, it costs AUD$9.99 a month or AUD$79.99 a year. Sweet dreams everyone.

What’s Keeping Us Sane

Believe it or not, we’ve actually quite relished the time we’ve spent at home. It has given us an opportunity to reconnect with those near and dear and forced us all to think about what we really want. Who knows? As things progress and people slowly start returning to their offices, we might even end up catching some post-iso blues.
