Casino Insider: Hustler Casino in Gardena reopens

Casino Insider is a weekly newsletter with all the best bets for food, entertainment and fun at Southern California’s casinos. It’s delivered to your inbox on Thursdays. Subscribe now.

Now that all of the tribal casinos in Southern California have reopened, we’re starting to see the reopening of card rooms.

Hustler Casino in Gardena reopened Friday, June 19 — that’s the day Los Angeles County card rooms, bars, nail salons and tattoo parlors were allowed to reopen. It had been closed for more than three months.

Before we get into what Hustler was like on its opening day, we know that readers of this newsletter still have a lot of questions about the casino experience and how it’s changed. We’re working diligently to get those questions answered.

This week we have answers on which casinos have restarted bus service.

Let’s dive in!

The reopened Hustler casino will register each of its players in a database; will have attendants in bathrooms to make sure that players wash their hands; and will give guests one warning for not wearing masks correctly before asking them to leave. David Rosenfeld has more.

Beyond Southern California…

Many of the casinos across Southern California and Nevada have already reopened. Elsewhere in the country though, casinos are just starting to get ready to reopen. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission recently finalized minimum health and safety standards to reopen casinos and some of those standards included disallowing poker, craps and roulette until further notice; capping blackjack style gaming tables at three players; and requiring players to cover their noses and mouths when they come in. ABC’s Boston affiliate has more.
