European-style castle in the Houston suburbs asks $12 million
A French-inspired estate that could have come straight out of the pages of a fairy tale but actually sits next to a golf course in the northwest Harris County suburbs is expected to hit the market today.
This 37,000-square-foot home-turned-wedding venue is being listed for $12 million. The property is just across Cypress Creek from the Raveneaux Country Club.
A couple bought the then-unfinished home out of foreclosure in 2011, completed the property’s build out and converted it into an event venue called Chateau Cocomar. They paid a bank $3.5 million for the site.
Originally meant to be a single-family home, construction on the property started in 2005, and though it was substantially completed, the house at 14525 Champions Drive was never finished. The project was begun by a local plastic who planned to live there with his wife.
Greenwood King’s Rich and Amanda Anhorn are listing the property for Chateau de Coco LLC, an entity registered with the state by Karen Estrada Martin.
The Anhorns said the owner spent millions on the chateau, which sits on more than seven acres in the Champions neighborhood. The property has a ballroom, seven private suites, billiard/poker rooms and a basement, which flooded during Hurricane Harvey.
It has been appraised at approximately $8 million by to the Harris County Appraisal District.
