POKER NIGHT AMBUSH: Man allegedly shot in the face by 'gatecrashing robber'

A Sydney man allegedly shot in the face inside his apartment was playing poker with friends at the time.

Kenny Wang was hosting a poker night with nine friends inside his Wolli Creek apartment on June 13, when two men allegedly forced their way into his home and demanded cash.

Police allege one of the gatecrashers was armed with a gun.

The men allegedly threatened the poker players before Wang was pistol-whipped and shot in the face.

Early on Wednesday, police arrested two men, aged 23 and 24, after conducting three search warrants at properties in Pemulwuy, Homebush and Fairfield.

Officers allegedly seized a pellet gun, an electronic stun device and mobile phones, as well as cannabis and cocaine.

The men were charged with various offences, including robbery armed with an offensive weapon and grievous bodily harm.

Detectives believe the robbery was well planned.

“There is no doubt that these perpetrators had some inside knowledge that there was going to be some cash in the premises that night,” Detective Acting Superintendent Grant Taylor said on Thursday.

Two men faced court on Thursday and remain behind bars.
