Harley-Davidson bikers raise funds for domestic and sexual violence survivors
SAINT PAUL, Neb. (KSNB) - 35 Platte River Harley-Davidson bikers drove around Central Nebraska for a poker run on Saturday.
They stopped at fire stations in Ravenna, Saint Paul, Fullerton, Aurora, and ended up at the Prairie Pride Brewery in Grand Island.
It was all to raise money for the Crisis Center in Grand Island, which is a haven for domestic and sexual violence victims. The shelter has been swamped throughout COVID-19 and said they need help more than ever.
“We’ve been busy," Crisis Center’s Marketing and Resource Coordinator Renae Swanson said. "Our shelters have been full. We’ve needed to use hotels to have people tested before they could stay in our shelter. We’ve been taking a lot of donations because we’ve been so busy.”
Bikers paid a registration fee to ride, and bought raffles tickets for a silent auction after the ride.
“We’re about at $1,500 or more," Swanson said. "The final count will be great. So every penny counts and helps us to continue breaking the cycle of violence.”
All of the proceeds went to services the shelter provides for survivors.
