Liverpool could give Man Utd edge in Thiago Alcantara transfer as Munich ‘angry’
Liverpool may give rivals Manchester United an edge in the race to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara after leaving the club “angry” with delays.
The Reds have been linked with a move for the Spaniard throughout the summer – but his £30m valuation has proved to be a sticking point.
It has seen their historic rivals emerge as contenders for the midfielder, who has seven Bundesliga titles and last year’s Champions League under his belt.
And a Bundesliga specialist has suggested Jurgen Klopp’s side have now irritated the Allianz Stadium side.
Speaking on popular United fan channel Stratford Paddock’s podcast, Christian Falk said: “This is the opinion of the club.
“Thiago wants to join Liverpool but, at the moment, there is still no offer.
“The bosses of Bayern Munich are a little bit angry because they think Liverpool are playing a poker game with them over a very small offer.
“Thiago said he wanted to go and now nothing is happening, so it’s a bit confusing for everyone.
“We have to wait and see if Liverpool have the money to pay.”
Liverpool have been distracted by Georginio Wijnaldum’s situation as the Dutch midfielder is linked with a move to Barcelona.
And the pundit suggested this is impacting Thiago’s destination as he wants to leave an awkward situation.
Falk added: “The situation depends on Wijnaldum, so Bayern Munich are also expecting an offer from United.
“They daren’t move at the moment because they don’t like to lose a poker game against Liverpool.
“But United have already talked with the side about the player, so United are still in the race.
“It’s not so easy for him to be on the training ground at Bayern – he said goodbye to the players, the bosses, the club.
“Now he’s wearing the Bayern jersey again and didn’t sign a contract, so to still be here is a difficult situation. He wants a new challenge.”
Falk also explained what the Spaniard can offer to Liverpool or United in the Premier League.
“Thiago was already a fantastic player when he left Barcelona,” he continued.

“He had no chance to play under Xavi and [Andres] Iniesta at the time. I think now he could be the perfect player for Barcelona.
“When he came to Germany, he didn’t have defensive skills but now he is not only very good technically but also defensively.
“That makes him the perfect player for the position Jurgen Klopp likes.
“In the Champions League, you always need fresh players to get the others running and moving, so I think it would be perfect for Liverpool.”
