Long suffering Kush Kazemi (Davood Ghadami) has paid a high price for his gambling addiction, which formed as he played poker online during lockdown. As the stakes got higher and higher in EastEnders – and Suki Panesar (Balvinder Sopal) increased the rent – Kush’s luck only paid off for so long before running out.

He resorted to stealing money from Ruby Allen’s (Louisa Lytton) club and when he then denied it, she accused him of having a gambling problem. When the Slaters closed ranks to support Kush, Ruby formed a plan with Suki, informing her of Kush’s addiction.

Suki then trapped him into a rigged poker game, using cameras to see his hands and KLush was conned out of everything, leaving him crushed.

He begs Suki to reconsider but she has no sympathy for him and tells him that a bet is a bet. As he tries to pick up the pieces, a disgusted Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) turns on him, making her anger at him clear.

As Kush realises he has lost everything, he admits to Stacey (Lacey Turner) and then Kat that he knows he has a problem with gambling – but this isn’t enough for Kat as they are still in financial straits.

As Kush struggles with his addiction, Kat puts a risky plan in place to get more cash but it’s not nearly enough – so she resorts to trying to get into a criminal plot with Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden).

Things start to spiral out of control and Kush knows he needs help – but is it too late to save his relationship with Kat and solve the problems of the Slater family?
